Membership Benefits
Joining Norvan & CPS
To become a member of Norvan and the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons, a prospect must take the Boating Course and successfully complete the examination. Every individual, regardless of previous experience, has had to qualify in this manner. CPS is proud of its reputation of having no shortcuts to membership
We currently have over 370 members in Norvan squadron. Why should you join or renew?
Anyone who has successfully completed the Boating Course or Boat Pro can join any of the Squadrons that make up Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons. However, membership can not be obtained until after doing so. There are many reasons to join CPS and Norvan. Following are just a few.....
-
Extend your knowledge of boating through participation in advanced and elective courses
-
Personal Satisfaction: Knowing that you have successfully completed a boating course and achieved the confidence and skill that makes a better and safer boater.
-
Port Captains: CPS members to assist you in strange waters across Canada. Similar USPS net for travel in US.
-
Social Activities: During the year the Squadron holds social and information functions. Participate in social functions such as cruises, crab feasts, wine and cheese tastings etc...
-
Insurance: Enjoy savings through CPS Members' Boat Insurance Program with additional discounts for completed courses.
-
The Anchor Watch, our Squadron newsletter, and Port Hole, our national magazine (published quarterly as part of Today's Boating magazine), and The Roster sent directly to members' homes.
-
Instructors and Proctors: Volunteer to assist the students. Upon completion of the Boating Course, you will be able to extend your boating season by volunteering to pass on some of your new found knowledge to the next class, or to assume a role in managing the Squadron.
-
Discounts: A number of companies, give discounts to CPS members. Take advantage of the special preferred risk boat insurance program, or numerous discounts from major merchants (this can more than offset your annual CPS dues)
-
Legislation & Regulations: Committees at both the National and District levels keep us informed of proposed changes that affect boaters. The Squadron is represented on the CPS Liaison Committee with the Rideau Canal and St. Lawrence Islands National Park authorities. District and National representatives meet regularly with the Canadian Coast Guard, marine police units and other regulatory bodies to provide input on issues of marine safety.
We would love it if you would consider joining us and becoming a part of our ongoing history.
