Flare Drop - April 27th

We are all (hopefully) diligent with ensuring all our safety equipment is up to date and easily available. But what about those old flares? Flares are only legally valid for four years from date of manufacture (check the date stamp on them). So every four years you have faithfully updated them....but what to do with that growing pile of expired ones? Well, a few of the recently expired ones are worthwhile keeping around since even the valid ones don't always work...and some extras are a safety net. But really, who needs the dozens and dozens that might be stashed in baggies aboard your vessel? And the problem is, they are virtually impossible to get rid of!! It is illegal to shoot them off at Halloween or the fireworks, so don't do it. Here's a better idea! On Sunday, April 27, between 1100 and 1530, you can pawn these mini explosive devices off on someone ele! Collect those old flares and bring them up to the Plaza at the RCMP headquarters inNorth Vancouver. The RCMP is hosting a collection. So look for our tent and stop by, say hello, and divest yourself of those pesky old, outdated flares.

Student Cruise a Huge Success!

Thanks everyone!!! We had an unprecedented student turnout! I counted 30 students that showed up for the cruise (but it might have been 31 in the end)!! Thanks for that since I won the pool for choosing the number that would actually show. You didn't disappoint me!!!! Thanks to the Proctors on the boats (Bruce Featherstone, Rob Dyck, Dominique Howell, Frank Mogridge, Lorette Mogridge, Jennifer Shaw, and me...(Paige Ackerman). And then there was the shore crew getting everything ready for the BBQ...Kirk Kohn, Mike Hickman, Bob Lowden, John Atkinson, Pat Lewis, and Ted Lewis. Most importantly, thanks go out to the Captains and crew of the boats that carried us out on the water. Dean Phillips (Speakeasy), Zale & Orilea Martell (Z'Xscape), Frank and Janet Nixon (owners of Ten Ton Rhino, but they brought a brand new 44' Sea Ray Sedan Bridge to show instead), John (), Stan Shepherd (Free Choice), and Doug & Donna Woods (Classy Lady). Boating is never cut and dry, and things go wrong when you least expect it. We are so appreciative of Classy Lady coming out to help us out. There was a bit of a mishap that meant Classy Lady couldn't leave the dock, but everything got sorted out although they weren't able to participate in the cruise. Regardless, we thank them for joining us!!! And thanks to the other Captains for accommodating the overload. I'll have a photo album online soon....

Got an idea?

Norvan is feeling blue. So we need some new socials events to perk us up. Sure, we have fun at the crab feed and the cruises, and the wine and chees, and the Christmas Social, and the Change of Watch...but we're not satisfied! We want more fun! Do you have an idea for a socials event? Call Pam Boudreau (604-985-3376) or Nancy Johnson (604-904-0334) with your thoughts and let's see if we can't find more ways to do more together!
